Big scare in Kentucky…

I arrived in Louisville, Kentucky on this past Friday. Got into my sister’s place around 1630 hours. Had a nice little visit, went and got a hotel room and out for dinner.

After dinner, they led me back to my hotel (I did not have it in my GPS yet) and she came in to use the bathroom. I went back outside and unloaded the bike and settled in.

Saturday morning, got up to head out to my sister’s, and could not find the key to my motorcycle. I checked the room three times, went downstairs to see if I had left it in the bike, back upstairs and unpacked EVERTHING, tripled checked again to make sure. Went downstairs to the front desk and someone had found my key on the pavement near the bike and turned it in. WHEW!

So, I am heading back to my sister’s place this morning. I will leave there around noon and head to Indianapolis to see more family.

4,000+ kilometers and counting….

I so have a friend like this, except that the entire time he was digging he would be bitching about his torn fingernails and the dirt on his designer jeans. It’s a trial having a male BFF who is prissier and more particular than me, but I still wouldn’t trade him for all the Barbra Streisand albums in the world.

Ageless

So, I went downstairs here at the hotel for breakfast. I’m 59yo and I think that I was the youngest person there.

Almost dropped on the floor and threw a temper tantrum cause I wasn’t the first in line!

So, this is Pigeon Forge…

0545 EST

I got into Pigeon Forge, TN yesterday around 1400 hours. I am meeting my brother and his wife here. My brother is the bus driver for one of the popular gospel quartet groups and the National Gospel Quartet Convention is being held here in Pigeon Forge this week. Pigeon Forge is one packed small town.

This folks, is BIG business. These groups are on the road every week, week after week. They may take a two or three week “Vacation” during the year, but the rest of the time, being on the road and singing is their full time job. Year after year.

Next year, the group will part of the entertainment on a couple of cruises.

So, my brother picked me up at my hotel and we went to dinner at a place that is owned by a former popular gospel singer and they serve smoked meat dinners. They actually have the smoker outside near the front of the business. In addition to a tasty meal, they play gospel music all the time for the patrons. Non stop gospel music. We were lucky enough to be seated right under the wall mounted speakers.

After that, we went to the convention hall that seats 12,000+. It was packed. There are multiple groups that hit the stage and perform every evening. And this evening, the group that my brother drives for will be on stage.

So, three things were clearly evident after my experience last night at the convention:

1) I really love my brother.

2) BIG hair is still popular. On women AND men.

3) I am still so not a gospel music fan.

And today, we get to do it all over again…

I leave my brother’s house today in Raleigh, NC and start heading west. Seven days and 3,000+ kilometers covered already. Two more weeks and a lot more highway to cover before I am back home in Canada. Me, my motorcycle and the highway.
